Named the Cavo Tagoo Golden Villas, you have the choice between a single and a double bedroom apartment, each with a gorgeous sea view and some very individual design touches. Slotting the electronic keycard in to the door lock sets the automatic lock into motion and with a push you're inside, to be greeted by a donkey. This was rather unexpected as this was no small donkey, but luckily he would not cause any trouble as he was a life-size all-white sculpture worth rather a lot of money! Passing the donkey leads you into the comfortable living area, where a huge L-shaped sofa gives you the chance to relax in front of the flatscreen TV or gaze over your patio and out to sea.

Opening the side door leading outside takes you first past a lengthy wooden table, apparently styled from an entire tree trunk, with so many matching chairs it would be possible to have quite a party! A pair of huge, squashy beanbag beds with equally as enormous footstools lay off to one side, which look so inviting it's hard not to spend the entire day being enveloped by them, however in front of them is your private infinity pool, something which cannot be ignored and easily beats the bean beds for your attention. Stunning by day and perhaps even more special at sundown, you'll want to spend plenty of time here.

Back inside and it's time to explore the remainder of your villa. The single villa is open plan, so the bed faces into the room and is flanked by a tall window looking out over your patio and pool and the raised platform houses one of the most comfortable beds you'll ever sleep in. The mattress is from Simmons and the pillows from luxury Greek bedding house CocoMat, both of which are so soft, yet firm enough not to be uncomfortable, you'll be wondering how to get one back home. A fluffy duvet tops the bed along with several over-sized cushions. Clever lighting systems are found throughout, all of which are controlled via a handy remote which allows you to switch some on and some off, adjust the air conditioning and even raise and lower the window blind next to the bed.

What luxury boutique hotel would be complete without a fabulous bathroom. The Golden Villas at Cavo Tagoo, being open plan, have their bathrooms 'in-room', so a few meters from your bed, you can hop into a relaxing hydro-massage bath. The wash basins are carved from wood and the suspended mirrors are specially lit to provide good vision and enhance the feeling of space. Shelving with books on Mykonos and Greek cultural history complete the decor in the villa. This short tour does little to prepare you for the comfort and luxury in these villas, where chic style meets quirky individuality without either being to overpowering.
