When Greek Advisor first visited the Mykonos Cavo Tagoo hotel it was in the middle of a total renovation and as most people appreciate, building sites are rarely inspiring, stepping over wet cement is not romantic and sweaty builders are rarely welcome in your hotel room. So to still get goose bumps as we pictured the finished product is a testament not only the fabulous design, but to the dedication and enthusiasm shown by the staff as we took a tour. Seeing it completed confirms what we already knew: this is one special hotel.

Of course, this level of greatness doesn’t just happen by accident; a team of talented individuals with many years of experience are behind Mykonos Cavo Tagoo hotel transformation into one of the premier Mykonos boutique hotels. Paris Liakos, famed Greek architect and owner of many fine Luxury hotels in Mykonos already, is the current owner and together with well-known interior designer Agelos Agelopoulos and bar/restaurateurs Spiros and Chrysanthos Panas, they have created a modern, dream-like place to stay.

How about the view over a new marina for private yachts, leading out into the Aegean, or the fantastic Cliffside location, perfect for watching one of those breathtaking Mykonos sunsets? For many though it will be the location of the Mykonos Cavo Tagoo hotel that stands out, as anyone who has visited Mykonos before knows that if you want to take part in the action, you have to be within walking distance of Mykonos town and although this is Greece, taxis are a bit of a rare breed here. The walk into town from the Mykonos Cavo Tagoo hotel is short, but does take you along a main road, so anyone not used to Greek traffic should prepare themselves before setting off!

The Mykonos Cavo Tagoo hotel consists of sixty-nine air-conditioned suites, some coming with Jacuzzi’s and private infinity pools. Each room employs swathes of the traditional stark whites so indelibly linked with Mykonos and compliments this with blocks of one particularly vibrant colour, a soothing blue, a striking rose or a startling fuchsia. The minimalistic nature of the suites combined with the odd eye-poppingly bright article of furniture may take a while to get used too, but there is no denying its individuality or impact.

Naturally, the suites of Mykonos Cavo Tagoo hotel are well specified too, complete with Simmons mattresses and soft down pillows on the beds, flat screen TV’s, DVD players with movies-on-demand and a selection of Korres products in the bathroom. Some of the suites have a private infinity pool which while true, is stretching the definition of private a little, as the pool is a sectioned off part of a larger pool also used by your two neighboring rooms.

Those guests wishing for a little more privacy will want to select the either the Honeymoon suite or the Executive room with private pool, sundeck, four-poster bed and Jacuzzi. The Executive room is massive, some 105 square meters, and has two bedrooms complete with private shower and Jacuzzi each, plus one of the best views in the entire hotel. The Mykonos Cavo Tagoo hotel initially it may seem expensive, but looked at as a villa for four people who may not want to leave it, the value is undeniable.

The gym’s standout machine is the incredible Technogym Kinesis Wall, where three-dimensional movement is employed to give a full-body workout via an almost infinite combination of movements. Modern technology is found in the spa too, as the individual treatment rooms contain machines that wouldn’t look out of place in a big-budget science fiction movie!

Amazingly, it doesn’t end there either, you have yet to explore the vast pool deck with its 38ft infinity pool and island-like beds to enjoy the Mykonian sun on, or the extended glass pool bar which doubles as a shark-filled aquarium, the beautiful restaurants of the Mykonos Cavo Tagoo hotel serving Mediterranean dishes, Sushi and a highly recommended breakfast or taken in the exquisite décor of the relaxing reception area.

After all of this, it would be only logical to assume that there is no way the Cavo Tagoo hotel in Mykonos can be that good. There has to be something that spoils it. Perhaps the staff doesn’t smile enough, or the service is slow? Sorry, but the service is as impeccable as one would expect and the smiles could have been imported from Thailand they are so prevalent. Does it all sound too good to be true?
