The popular beach spot of Platis Gialos is a pretty village a 10 minute drive from Mykonos Town, so in terms of convenience for the heart of the island it's an excellent choice for those not wishing to stay in the centre. The sandy beach is lined with sun loungers and umbrellas and small boats bob up and down in the invariably calm waters, there is the chance to go scuba diving and water taxis can take you on the short journey to Paradise and Super Paradise beach if you feel like joining in the party.

For this reason, if the more energetic side of the Mykonian experience is not for you, Platis Gialos just may be. The sea front is lined with restaurants and a few bars at the far end, there is a bus stop if you decide public transport is preferable to a quad bike or car and providing you make the right choice, several excellent hotels. However, it's rather easy to become confused with all the very similar sounding names, so we shall clear this up here. The Petasos Beach Hotel and Spa is opposite the Petinos Hotel, while the Petinos Beach Hotel is found on the seafront, so you must pass both these other hotels to find it.

It's worth the little more effort too, as the Petinos Beach Hotel has a wonderful position overlooking the bay and although it's small at just 19 rooms, the architecture is pure, traditional Mykonos – so anyone wanting a taste of the Aegean in their hotel will not be disappointed. The rooms are split into two categories – Deluxe Room and Junior Suite – plus a Honeymoon Suite with a gorgeous four-poster bed and beautiful blue and white colour scheme. While none are particularly large, the high quality furnishings and often wonderful view convinces you of the Petinos Beach's excellent reputation.

La Pisina is your breakfast restaurant where you can also enjoy a snack for lunch while in the evening, if the variety of restaurants along the beach don't take your fancy, perhaps a candlelight dinner for two at the Blue Myth Restaurant will be more to your liking. Twice a week, the Blue Myth also hosts Greek nights too. Of course, as a small hotel, you won't find an extensive gym or spa on site, but with the great beach outside your door, these things probably won't be missed too much.

Do not be fooled into staying at the Petinos Hotel across the road, as this hotel not only lacks the charm and style of the Petinos Beach Hotel, but also disappoints on service too. These problems seem not to be continued to the Petinos Beach, where staff were friendlier and more willing to assist, however, this is perhaps not the place to stay if you want 24 hour-a-day pampering. Otherwise, the Petinos Beach Hotel is a great place to enjoy the beauty of Platis Gialos.
